What is a subway poem?
I write subway poems from time to time. This poem is one of them.
Do you want to know what a subway poem is? Let’s say the answer is yes. So here’s what a subway poem is.
A metro poem is a poem composed in the metro, during the time of a journey.
A subway poem has as many verses as your trip has minus one stations.
The first verse is composed in your head between the first two stations of your journey (counting the departure station).
It is transcribed on paper when the carriage stops at Station Two.
The second verse is composed in your head between stations two and three of your journey.
It is transcribed on paper when the carriage stops at Station Three. And so on.
Do not transcribe when the carriage is running.
Do not compose when the it stops.
The last verse of the poem is transcribed on the dock of your last station.
If your trip requires one or more line changes, the poem will have two or more stanzas.
If, unfortunately, the train stops between two stations, it is always a delicate moment in the writing of a subway poem. ✪
