Le Livre de Poche, Pocket Books, began publication in February 1953 by Librairie générale française, a sub-brand of the Hachette publishing group in France. It can be said that they were the first pocket books in the fashionable sense. In fact, the concept of a book that would fit in a pocket was in the middle since 1905, and there were those who published crime books with the same name at a low price.
