19.yy’da İngiliz edebiyatına çocuk neşesi katan yazar-çizer Edward Lear’ın mizahi şiirleri, tekerlemeleri, limerick’leri (limerick nedir? kısaca aabba ölçüsünde yazılmış nükteli şiirler denilebilir) kendi çizimleriyle gün içinde ya da dışında gülümsetiyor, hatta güldürüyor.
Penguin yayınlarından yıllar önce çıkan ve Pandora Kitabevi’nde de tükenen,”The book of Nonsense and Nonsense Songs” adı altında bir kitapta toplanmış şiirler ve şarkıların Routledge yayınevinden çıkan baskısı Pandora’dan neyse ki temin edilebilir. Şiirlerden bir örnek:

Yaşamına, gittiği ülkelerde tecrübe ettiklerine absürd bakış açısı aslında çektiği yalnızlığın ve hastalıklarının (epilepsi, astım ve kısmi körlük) bir tür dışavurumudur deniyor.
