portekizli lanetli şair, yetmiş iki tane diğer kişilik yaratmış, şeytanın saati’ni ilk okuduğumda beni benden almış, denizin, sırların, alter egoların, saklı tanrıların ve gözlüklerin şairi fernando pessoa ve alter egoları şehrimize teşrif ettiler. adıanılamayacak yerde bizleri bekliyorlar, karanlığın tam içine bakmak için

ece ayhan’ın ruh kardeşi, babası ölen tüm çocuklar gibi siyahlara bürünmüş, denizi sevmiş, edgar allan poe’ya gönül düşürmüş fernando pessoa ve gerçek kişilikleri (gerçek diyoruz, çünkü düşlerin tek gerçeklik olduğuna inananlardanız):

‘bir düşçü asla uyumaz.’

fütürist alvaro de campos, neo-pagan alberto caeiro, ricardo reis’in astrolojik aynaları.

the keper of flocks

when a chill falls at the other side of a valley
and you feel that night has come in
like a butterfly through a window.

in my sadness there is calm
because it is both natural and right
and is what there should be in the soul
when it is thinking it exists
and the hands are picking flowers, not noticing which.

to think is uncomfortable, like walking in the rain
when the wind is rising, and the clouds wait
with more rain.

I have no ambition or wants.
to be a poet is no ambition of mine.
it is my way of staying alone.

when I sit down to write poems,
or walk along the roads and paths,
writing poems on the paper of my thoughts,
I feel the shepherd’s crook in my hands
and see an outline of myself
on the crest of a hill,
listening for my ideas and seeing my flock,
or listening for my flock and seeing my ideas,
and smile inward like a man who does not understand
what is being said
and tries to pretend he understands.

I salute all those who may read me,
doffing my broad brimmed hat to them
as they see me in my doorway
and the bus barely makes it to the hill-crest.
I salute them and wish them sun,
and rain, when it is needed,
and that their houses may have
(below an open window)
a favourite chair
where they can sit, and read my poems.
and, as they read my poems, may they think
I am some natural thing
for instance, the ancient tree
in whose shade, when children,
tired of playing, sit down,
wiping the sweat from a hot forehead
with the cuff of a white smock.

poem XXXIX

where is it, this mystery of things?
where is it, and why doesn’t it at least
appear, and prove that it’s a mystery?
what does a river know of this, what does a tree know,
and what do I know, who is no more than they?
whenever I look at things and think
of men’s thoughts about them
I laugh like a cool brook babbling over stones.for the only hidden meaning of things
is that they have no hidden meaning at all.
it’s stranger than strangeness itself,
stranger than the dreams of all poets
and the thoughts of all philosophers,
that things really are what they seem,
so that there’s nothing to understand.

there! that’s what my senses learned unaided:-
things have no meaning: they have being.
things are the only hidden meaning of things. ✪
